    Situation

North Sumatra's rainforests are amongst the most biodiverse on our planet and home to Tapanuli & Sumatran orangutans - both critically endangered species. Pressure from agriculture, infrastructure and other developments is resulting in the landscape becoming fragmented and orangutans trapped in small islands of forest without enough space to move, breed and feed. We must protect and reconnect these remaining vital forest landscapes so rare wild Sumatran and Tapanuli orangutans can thrive.

    Solution

Orangutans need resilient, connected rainforest landscapes - and these are vital to our own wellbeing, too. Through meaningful collaboration with communities living alongside orangutans, they can share in the benefits of protecting their forests, and pursue development without harming nature. Teaming up with locally-based and community-connected organisations on the ground, our projects foster resilience for wildlife, forests, people and the climate.
