Take Action: Ask your MEP to oppose EU biofuel targets
25 June 2008
The EU is debating two new directives, which, if adopted in their current form, would greatly increase agrofuel incentives and targets and trigger more destructive investment in large agrofuel monocultures. This would almost certainly cause more deforestation, higher food prices, increased climate change, more rural poverty and displacement of communities and more human rights abuses.
On 23rd January 2008 the European Commission published its proposal that all road fuels in the EU will contain 10% biofuels by 2020, despite mounting evidence that biofuel expansion will bring severe environmental problems.
Supporters in the UK and Europe can send an email to your MEPs to call for a stop to this target - click here
