Environmentalists mourn the death of human rights defender Golfrid Siregar
Environmental and human rights defender Golfrid Siregar tragically passed away on Sunday, October 6 2019, three days after being found unconscious with a severe head injury.
Golfrid was an active environmental advocate of WALHI North Sumatra, and a police investigation has been launched into the cause of his injuries.
We send our deepest condolences to Golfrid’s family and colleagues. He made a substantial contribution to the environmental movement in North Sumatra, seeking legal justice on behalf of forest-dependent communities, and his death is a tremendous loss.
