We are relieved to confirm that our frontline partners are safe. The immediate safety of our team, partners, and the communities we support is our priority. Our thoughts are with all those who are grieving, displaced, or facing an uncertain future.
Our immediate response
In light of this devastation, we asked ourselves whether we should pause our Big Give appeal. We have decided to proceed for the following reasons.
Our work to protect orangutans is inseparable from our commitment to the people who share their forests. Together with our local partners, we protect and reconnect rainforests and support communities to develop sustainable livelihoods. These initiatives are essential to building both climate and community resilience.
This crisis is not over. The weeks and months ahead will be incredibly challenging for many. At the same time, we remain deeply committed to building a future where both people and nature can thrive. The funds raised through the Big Give will help ensure this vital conservation and community work can continue in the year ahead.
Our hearts are with everyone affected by this disaster, and with those now beginning the long process of rebuilding their lives. We stand alongside the people of Sumatra.
What happens next?
From 12 noon tomorrow, donations made to our Big Give appeal will be doubled. Every pound you give will go twice as far to protect orangutans and the rainforest they – and so many communities – depend on.
Thank you, as always, for your compassion and for standing by our side.
