Today, on International Orangutan Day, people around the world are celebrating these magnificent apes and reflecting on the vital conservation work being done to protect them. For us, it’s also a moment to pause and reflect on our impact so far.
Here at SOS, we are incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made in 2025. This has only been possible thanks to your generous support.
Together, standing alongside our incredible frontline partners, we’ve been able to:
🦧 Protect three vital forest corridors in West Toba and Batang Toru, keeping these precious landscapes connected for Sumatran and Tapanuli orangutans.
🌱 Break ground on a new rewilding site in the Gunung Leuser National Park. Where our partners have nurtured over 10,000 wild seedlings so far, and established a tree nursery with capacity for 90,000 seedlings.
🏫 Provide another year of support for Leuser Nature School, giving free education to secondary school children and creating the next generation of forest guardians through active involvement in forest restoration.
🎓 Fund a scholarship for a local conservation leader, which will support the on-the-ground capacities of the Human-Orangutan Conflict Rescue Unit.
