In the Tenggulun Forest Block of North Sumatra, illegal oil palm plantations have left large areas of rainforest fractured and barren. Our frontline partners, PETAI, are working alongside local communities, to drive ecological recovery.
In this phase, thousands of tree seedlings have been manually transported from the nursery to the restoration site located deep within the forest. This is no easy task! The entire process was managed and monitored by the PETAI team to ensure every seedling has the best chance to grow.

Following the eradication of illegal crops in Tenggulun, restoration has begun.
Through collaboration with local communities, approximately 5,000 seedlings have been planted across 30 hectares.
Local farmers have handed back encroached land following a six-month transition period.
Local communities are receiving training in wild seedling collection and organic fertiliser production.
