The Big Give is Here! Double Your Donation! - SOS – Sumatran Orangutan Society

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is here!

This is our biggest fundraising campaign of the year. Every donation you make between 2nd- 9th December will be DOUBLED! By supporting SOS, you’ll help protect orangutans and their rainforest homes.

Donate Now to Double Your Impact

For one week only, your generosity will go twice as far. The Big Give Christmas Challenge is here! Every gift you make will be doubled until we hit our target of £100,000.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help protect wild orangutans. Your generosity will:

🌳 Restore barren land with native, fast-growing trees.

🦧 Establish forest corridors to allow orangutans to move through the landscape.

🏘️ Partner with local communities to build sustainable livelihoods and protect forests.

This is your chance to double your donation and make a difference for critically endangered orangutans.

Here’s what your gift could do:

  • £15 → £30: transport 300 seedlings safely to rewilding sites
  • £30 → £60: plant 60 fast-growing trees, providing orangutan nesting spots
  • £65 → £130: monitor tree health and growth at rewilding sites
  • £100 → £200: map orangutan nesting areas to protect vital rainforest zones

Why is it critical to protect wild orangutans now?

Orangutans are incredible creatures. They act as ecosystem engineers, helping to maintain the health of their rainforest habitats. By spreading seeds and shaping the forest, they support a thriving ecosystem for countless species – plants, insects, animals, and more.

The forests they call home are being lost due to farming, logging, and road-building. These human activities are fragmenting their habitat, leaving orangutans with less space to roam, feed, and breed. Without urgent action, we risk losing these incredible creatures and the diverse rainforest ecosystems they help sustain.

Why are the rainforests of North Sumatra so vital?

Sumatra’s rainforests are a treasure trove of biodiversity! From majestic orangutans to elusive tigers, these forests are home to some of the most amazing creatures on the planet (many of which are found nowhere else).

Rainforests are vital carbon sinks, absorbing huge amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping to combat the effects of climate change. By safeguarding these ecosystems, we’re not only ensuring orangutans have a place to live, but we’re also fighting climate chaos.
