Our Patrons
Bill Bailey
Bill is the UK's best-loved stand-up comedian, as well as being a talented musician and actor. He is passionate about environmental issues and conservation, and frequently spends time in Indonesia. He
says:
"I have a huge amount of respect for SOS and the tireless work they do to improve the lot of Sumatra's dwindling orang-utan population. As the habitat of these gentle giants is destroyed, their plight is a constant grim reminder of the destructive power of human encroachment and the work of SOS is now more vitally important than ever."
Cathy Sharon and Julie Estelle
Cathy and Julie are actresses, models, TV presenters - and sisters! Cathy is also a former MTV Asia VJ and host of Dancing with the Stars Indonesia. They became ambassadors for SOS in 2010, helping us to raise awarenes about the plight of their country's rainforests and endangered species.
Cathy says "I joined SOS because of my love for nature and wildlife. I feel that younger generations need to be educated on such things and to have passion toward nature and wildlife. My visits with SOS to the restoration area in the Gunung Leuser National Park have made my love for nature and wildlife grow even deeper, and inspired me to be more engaged in the protection and conservation of Sumatran orangutans and their forest habitat. I hope being a public figure and engaging in this work will help to spread awareness of the issue among public and media and thus inspire many more to join us in our effort together to protect Indonesia's rainforest heritage and its unique wildlife."
Julie says "My love for nature and wildlife has driven me to accept the duty as ambassador for SOS along with my sister, Cathy Sharon. I'm grateful for being able to be directly involved in rainforest and wildlife conservation, especially the Sumatran orangutan which we all know is under the threat of extinction. I hope my involvement with SOS brings positive influences and awareness among people of Indonesia and make everyone more aware of the importance to protect our rainforest and its unique wildlife."Chrissie Hynde
